Up for sale is my 88? 244 DL. The car runs, drives, and stops. The body is very straight with minimal dings/dents. The paint is original and would shine up very nicely with a good wax and compound. It will come with a brand new battery (Wal-Mart) with a two-year warranty as well.
The interior is in great condition, with no rips or tears on any of the seats and almost no color fade whatsoever. The dashboard has a couple small cracks in it on the upper level. The front door map pockets are solid and intact. The car is very clean inside and comes from a smoke/pet/mess-free environment.
The motor and transmission are both very strong. The motor does have a case of the shakes when first started, but once it warms up a bit, it?s back to normal. The transmission is smooth and trouble free. On occasion when giving it a lot of gas, the motor will almost bog down for a second. The car pulls and gets out of its own way the best a 244 N/A can.
The tires are all matching and have a ton of tread left on them. New pads and rotors all the way around the car. Fresh transmission fluid and oil as well as coolant. The suspension can be a little soft/floaty at times. All the lights work well. The belts are also in pretty good condition. The timing belt also looks to be in very good condition the last I checked.
This car is just what you would expect from a 24-year-old 244. It starts right up and goes. There are some problems with it though, but they are certainly fixable. The heater works on all settings but the A/C does not. The compressor spins free. Maybe it just needs some R-12.
First off, there is some rust around the car as you can see in the photos. I would say nothing major, but it?s still rust. The worst case of it is on the rear driver-side door, as you can see in the photo.
There is also a leak on the passenger side by the lower half of the windshield. I am not sure if this is due to rust or the whole thing needing to be re-sealed, but water does get in, and a bit of it at that. It runs down onto the passenger-side floor.
The kick-down cable is broken/seized up and will need to be replaced. The car is drivable as is, but it?s something you will want to fix. I bought the replacement cable and that will be included with the car. I will also include a brand new Elring transmission filter and gasket kit (in lieu of the kick-down cable replacement) and a spare OEM headlight. Also included will be the terrible Haynes manual that will not help you! God, it sucks. A spare grill is included as well.
The in-tank fuel pump went bad, so it was replaced with a new one. I never got around to installing the new fuel filter, so that will also be included. The fuel gauge now reads full all the time. I?m not sure if a wire got crossed or what; I just haven't driven the car, so there was no need to investigate. The temperature gauge does not work. It worked before the car was parked, though, so I?m not sure what could have gone wrong. The odometer does work; I replaced the larger gear in it so it reads 214XXX, but I am unsure of the actual miles. The radio does not power on. Judging by the condition of the car as a whole, I?d say it?s not too far off.
The car has a push button start. The key is turned to position II, and then a switch in the dash is flipped and the car starts. To shut the car off, just turn the key. I bought the car with this already installed and did not feel the need to change it or mess with it.
I bought this car about two years ago with the intention of using it as my second/backup car to my 744 TIC, but I never put it on the road and it has been in a garage ever since. I installed the new breaks and fluids and got the in-tank pump fixed as soon as I bought the car, so the fluids and breaks have almost no miles on them. I took the car out this evening to take the photos, and it started right up and drove really well for sitting that long. The breaks felt nice and strong with a solid pedal.
Of course, the car is being sold AS-IS. Im asking $1,100 but no reasonable offer will be refused! I?m pretty sure I?ve listed anything and everything I know about the car here, and I hope the photos and video help. I can make myself and the car available mostly any day: however, weekends coming up may be tough. It is not currently registered or insured, but you can wear the concrete out going up and down the driveway if you wish. If you have any questions about the car just ask!
Thanks for looking!
